General Motors Ignition Switch Dangers
GM issued one recall for ignition keys and two recalls for ignition components installed in a number of different vehicle brands and models.
The company first recalled ignition switches after reports the components could be turned into the “off” position while driving, shutting off engines and disabling airbags and power steering. GM then issued a recall targeting defective ignition lock cylinders that allow vehicles to keep running with keys removed, which can lead to driver-less vehicle collisions. In June 2014, GM issued another recall—this time for defective keys that could be bumped into the “off” position while driving, shutting off airbags and power steering and causing drivers to lose control.
