Behind the Scenes
At a William Mattar commercial shoot, we have a team of around 35 crew members
working together to bring creative visions to life. The production process can span
several months, and each team member has a distinct role to play. From our talented
directors, producers, lighting and camera operators, and sound engineers to the
creative minds handling props, wardrobe, makeup, and acting, everyone plays an
important role. Many on the team work with us year after year, which is a testament to
the creative family we have built over the years.
Where the Spot was Filmed – ECC City Campus:
Part of the creative team’s mission is to find buildings and locations that provide an ideal backdrop for the theme of the spot being filmed. With our principal office in Western New York, some amazing locations are selected in Buffalo, as it is filled with unique places and architectural gems. For this spot, SUNY Erie Community College State University of New York’s City Campus in downtown Buffalo was the perfect backdrop for many scenes. We appreciate them graciously allowing us to film there during the summer of 2024. Here are some interesting facts we learned about this historic building:
- The building where the City Campus is currently located is a historic Post Office Building. Built in 1897 and opened in 1901, this Victorian Gothic style building displays a Maine granite exterior with a roof of Spanish tile laid in concrete. The interior has impressive features such as terra cotta walls, mosaic tile finishes, rooms filled with mahogany and polished oak, and brick wainscoting. FUN FACT: For the Post Office dedication, the first letter mailed was to President William McKinley.
- The building has changed residents over the century. The City Campus opened in 1971 at this former location of Bishop O’Hern High School. It was at this time that Erie Community College became the first multi-campus college in New York State (outside of NYC).
- This 225,000 square foot location has a skylit 6-story atrium, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
