Each year, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) participates in National Seat Check Saturday to promote child passenger safety. The GTSC partners with local and state agencies to host car seat check events throughout New York State.
At these events, parents and guardians may sign up for car seat inspections and receive valuable child passenger safety information.
According to the GTSC, “the goal [of National Seat Check Saturday] is to make sure that children are in the correct car seat, that seats are properly installed and used, and that seats are registered with its manufacturer to ensure parents and caregivers receive important safety updates.”

It is important that parents and guardians select an appropriate child safety seat for their children and recommendations provided by the seat’s manufacturers, including weight and height restrictions and requirements. Seats and restraint systems must always be certified according to Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard 213.
