June 1, 2012 In a case that has captivated Buffalo, New York, residents over the past several months, a jury on Wednesday acquitted the prominent doctor who was accused of hitting and killing an 18-year-old female with his car while driving drunk. According to the Buffalo News, the parents of the victim hold no animosity toward the doctor, but don’t believe justice was done. The accident occurred on July 8, 2011, on Heim Road. Early reports stated that the doctor struck the girl with his car as she was skateboarding home from work, but fled the scene without rendering aid. The doctor told police and jurors though that he hadn’t realized he had hit a person until he arrived at home and surveyed the damage to his vehicle. He then turned himself into police who arrested him under several felony charges including manslaughter. He was only convicted of misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, which carries a sentence of up to one year in jail. The family of the victim is now waiting for the civil case for the wrongful death lawsuit they filed shortly after the victim’s passing to potentially bring them the justice for the death of their loved one.
