Highway safety is important to those who live in the city of Buffalo, New York, and throughout the Erie County region. It took one man a lifetime of commitment and labor to bring an exemplary standard of highway safety to western New York.
Dennis C. Murphy was born in Detroit, but he grew up on the outskirts of Buffalo. He graduated from Kensington High School and later attended the University at Buffalo before pursuing a doctorate.
He later returned to his childhood hometown, where he began pushing for highway and traffic improvements. Mr. Murphy was the man behind the state’s STOP-DWI program and the first seat belt legislation. He also was behind routing traffic around the Buffalo Bills stadium when the Orchard Park stadium was constructed, and he served four terms on the Governors Traffic Safety Committee.
Other community organizations he was involved in include the Erie County Traffic Safety Board, the Village of Williamsville Traffic Board, and the Amherst Gaelic League. Read more about Dennis C. Murphy here.
Sadly, the man known as “Mr. Highway Safety” passed earlier this month at age 80.
The Buffalo Car Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices would like to send their deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. Murphy for their loss. The firm will remember him for his great deeds towards giving to the community through the improvement of roadways and helping others.
