What is Code Blue in Buffalo? 

Code Blue is a life-saving initiative, primarily funded by  Code Blue is funded by Erie County, City of Buffalo, National Fuel, M&T Bank, Evans Devereux Memorial Fund, and the John R. Oishei Foundation. It’s bolstered by a coalition of agencies under the Western New York Coalition for the Homeless (WNYCFTH), creating a network of support for those in dire need. 

The campaign springs into action on nights when the temperatures and wind chill fall to 15 degrees or below. This period typically spans from November 15 to March 15, a time when the harshness of winter is most acutely felt. 

More Than Just a Shelter 

Code Blue isn’t just about providing a roof over the heads of the homeless. It’s a comprehensive approach that includes: 

• Outreach: Teams actively reach out to those living on the streets, offering assistance and information about available resources. 
• Transportation: For those needing shelter but lacking the means to reach it, transportation is provided. 
• Shelter: Temporary shelters offer a safe, warm place to stay during these critical times. 
• A Warm Meal: Addressing basic needs, each individual is also provided with a warm meal, offering not just nutritional sustenance but also a sense of care and community. 

Who Can Benefit? 

The beauty of Code Blue is its inclusivity. It’s open to anyone living on the streets or anyone who needs shelter during these extremely low temperatures. There are no pre-qualifications, just immediate action to protect those in need.
