Reckless New York Drivers Causing Insurance Rate Hikes

Car insurance rates across New York are rising due to data showing the state’s drivers tend to engage in dangerous behavior on the road. The Buffalo Car Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices point out the rising insurance rates have led to many citizens not carrying enough insurance—and some carrying no coverage at all.

Highlighting just how reckless New York drivers can be are numbers reported by the Insurance Journal that show New York State Troopers issued more than 33,000 tickets during the holidays last year, running from Dec. 14 to Jan. 1. In fractions included speeding, distracted driving, and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

These numbers have caused insurers to raise rates because of the increased risk of accidents, which has led to motorists eliminating insurance coverage due to rising costs.  Unfortunately though, when an accident occurs that is the fault of an under-insured motorist, the victim may be unable to receive compensation for their losses. This is why it is so important for drivers to carry adequate insurance coverage.

In New York, a driver’s no-fault coverage will cover his or her medical expenses and damages in the event they are involved in a crash with another motorist who does not have enough insurance.

The Personal Injury Lawyers at William Mattar Law Offices explain the claims process can be complex. That’s why the firm suggests accident victims discuss their case with an attorney.
