New York State Police Hosting Child Safety Seat Clinics

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) say motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children in the United States. Experts attribute this to a lack of properly installed child safety seats in vehicles. According to an article from The Post-Standard, the New York State Police will be conducting child safety seat clinics to educate parents and motorists about child safety equipment.

The program will inform participants about the laws and proper uses of safety seats. Current regulations state that any child under the age of seven-years-old must be fastened into a safety seat when in a motor vehicle. The seat used should be matched appropriately with a child’s height and weight in order to prevent injuries in the event of a New York Car Accident. Also, having the installation of a safety seat checked by an expert is vital, as caregivers or parents do not properly install nine out of ten seats.

The next clinic will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walmart located off of Route 49 in Central Square, New York.
