Efforts to Curb Dangerous Driving During Thanksgiving Were Successful

Some factors that cause accidents tend to be more prevalent than others, especially around the holidays. Some of the most reported reasons motor vehicle collisions occur during this time of year include speeding, distraction, and driving under the influence.

Fortunately, law enforcement officials in New York have been working to combat dangerous driving behaviors, and they have been quite successful in their mission. According to My Twin Tiers, the New York State Police issued more than 14,000 tickets to motorists who broke the law over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Records show 5,910 citations were issued to drivers who were caught speeding, while another 715 tickets were given to motorists who were distracted behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. A total of 218 others were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The number of citations weren’t the only measure marking the efforts as a success. Troopers say they only had to investigate one fatal crash during the holiday weekend.
