Tens of thousands of motor vehicle accidents are reported in New York State each year. The contributing factors to these crashes are numerous. In some cases, defective car products are sometimes listed as the cause of crashes. The New York Car Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices explain that collisions caused by faulty equipment on vehicles often lead to automotive recalls to both protect the pubic from harm and minimize liability.

An example of an automotive recall can be seen in the controversy swirling around Toyota. The auto manufacturer is facing claims that they installed faulty accelerator systems in their vehicles, causing motorists to lose control and crash. The company has had to recall and repair hundreds of thousands of vehicles and is facing lawsuits in both federal and state courts.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is attempting to reduce the impact of faulty vehicle equipment by launching a new program that will allow individuals to enter their Vehicle Identification Number into a database. The system will then search for any outstanding recalls on the vehicle. Officials are hopeful the program will improve automobile safety across the United States.

William Mattar and his firm of New York Personal Injury Lawyers applaud the efforts being made to improve vehicle safety and are hopeful the new program is a success!
