Aug. 27, 2012 With Labor Day weekend approaching, law enforcement across the nation will be out in full force to catch drunk drivers. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued a press release stating that it is teaming up with the National Center for DWI Courts, the Governors Highway Safety Association, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and numerous local law enforcement agencies in launching this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. Each year, approximately 10,000 law enforcement agencies participate in the campaign, which runs from August 17th through Labor Day. During that time, law enforcement officers conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols in an effort to take impaired drivers off of America’s roadways. The campaign also works to reduce the number of Buffalo Car Accidents caused by drunk drivers by airing advertisements on television pointing out the dangers of driving under the influence. Additionally, lawmakers also are working to advocate for the use of ignition interlock systems on vehicles belonging to those caught driving drunk. The ignition interlock systems require a driver to blow into the device in order to test for alcohol before the vehicle will start. The devices have proven effective in deterring repeat offenses. The Car Accident Lawyers with the William Mattar Law Offices encourage everyone to have a safe end to the summer by not getting behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking.
