April 2, 2014 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an intellectual disability that affects one in every 68 children born in the United States today. Despite its high prevalence, there is no known cure and only a fraction of the federal budget goes to researching treatments and causes. To increase understanding of ASD, today has been declared World Autism Awareness Day by Autism Speaks. Citizens are asked to wear blue and shine blue lights today as part of the Light It Up Blue campaign for ASD awareness and outreach. We should also consider how a single act of kindness can make a huge difference in the day of a person with ASD. On that note, Autism Speaks is asking the public to offer a random act of kindness as inspiration to the ASD community. Those acts can then be shared online and so far, more than 36,500 have been posted. The Buffalo Personal Injury Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices are doing their part to raise awareness about ASD, and ask the citizens of western New York to share what they are doing on our social media outlets.
