The project will convert an underused, high-speed expressway to a low-speed city street for numerous homes and businesses. Experts say that eliminating the eight to 12 lanes of highway and trading them for a two lane street will not only promote economic growth and expansion in the area, but will also reduce accidents by slowing vehicles down. Officials add the new design will prove to be friendlier to pedestrians and cyclists as well.
