Dec. 10, 2012 New York boasts some of the toughest drunk driving laws in the nation. As a result, a large number of motorists are arrested in the state each year for driving under the influence (DUI). Statistics show that more than 25,000 New York motorists are arrested each year on DUI charges. Experts believe that as many as 30 percent of those arrested are repeat offenders. Recently, a man was charged with DUI following a Rochester Car Accident. The Foster’s Daily Democrat reports that this is the driver’s third DUI charge. Officers with the Rochester Police Department were called to Rochester Hill Road at around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday night in response to a crash at an intersection. Further investigation determined the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was placed under arrest on charges of DUI, driving under a suspended or revoked license, and transportation of alcoholic beverages. Records show the man had previous arrests for similar crimes in New Hampshire and Maine. Many officers say the best way to stop the problem is to implement technology capable of monitoring convicted drunk drivers at all times, such as ignition interlock systems and alcohol monitoring bracelets. The Buffalo Car Accident Attorneys with William Mattar Law Offices would like to applaud officers for working to keep New York’s roads free of drunk drivers.
