Dec. 17, 2012 Drugged driving seems not only to be a growing trend in New York State, but across the country as well. In fact, statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that approximately one in eight drivers will test positive for drugs while behind the wheel of a vehicle. Recently, The Buffalo News reported that five people were arrested at a sobriety checkpoint on Friday night and Saturday morning. Four arrests were drug-related, while only one arrest was for drunk driving. The checkpoint was operated along North Main Street from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. by the New York State Police, in conjunction with Jamestown City Police. Law enforcement arrested a 25-year-old Pittsburgh man on charges on marijuana possession after a small amount was found in the console of his vehicle. A 24-year-old Gerry man was arrested on similar charges, while another person was arrested after being found in possession of narcotic medications without a prescription. A 32-year-old man was also taken into custody for driving under the influence of drugs after causing a Car Accident on Interstate-86, outside of Ellery, New York. The Buffalo Car Accident Attorneys with William Mattar Law Offices point out that December is Drunk and Drugged Driving Awareness Month, and the firm ask that we each do our part to observe these dangers by never getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming anything that may impair your judgment.
