Distracted Driving Accident Leaves One Dead and Three Injured

Oct. 22, 2012 A 55-year-old woman from Baldwinsville, New York, was killed and three other were seriously injured after a three-vehicle accident. The Daily News reports distracted driving was a contributing factor to the crash. The accident happened just after 3 p.m. yesterday, at the corner of Warner Road and Route 20 in Darien, New York. Deputies with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department believe the 47-year-old driver of a Chrysler 300 was heading west along Route 20 when he became distracted, veered into the oncoming lanes of traffic and struck the side of a Chevrolet Trailblazer attempting to turn left. The force of the car accident pushed the Chrysler into the path of a Toyota RAV 4, where the two vehicles collided head-on. A female passenger in the Toyota was declared dead at the scene, while a 16-year-old female passenger and the vehicle’s driver both sustained injuries. They were rushed to the local hospital for examination. Both of the other drivers involved were uninjured. Law enforcement officials say their investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Buffalo Car Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices urge motorists to educate themselves about the dangers using a cellphone while driving, and what they can do to prevent distracted driving. Putting the phone down may help to keep you and your loved ones safe while traveling on New York’s roadways.
