May 1, 2013 Experts say many New York car accidents could have been prevented by the use of seat belts. These accidents occur despite laws requiring the use of these lifesaving devices. According to the New York Department of Motor Vehicles, current regulations in New York require each driver and front seat passenger be restrained by a seat belt at all times. Each child under the age of 16 years old is also required to buckle up, regardless of seating position in the vehicle. Children under the age of 8 years old must be seated in an approved child safety or booster seat. In an effort to get more citizens of New York to comply with the law and understand the importance of buckling up for safety’s sake, the Buffalo Personal Injury Lawyers with the William Mattar Law Offices are holding a drawing for a free vacation for those who agree to always fasten their seat belts every time they get in a car. The William Mattar Buckle Your Belt Program will hold the drawing on May 17 from the names of those who fill out a form agreeing to always buckle up on the firm’s website. The trip is a free vacation for four to the Fern Resort in Ontario, Canada, and the winner will be announced on May 24. The firm believes the campaign will save lives by getting more people to use seat belts.
