Cyclist and Pedestrian Safety Becoming a Top Priority for Buffalo Officials

December 4, 2013 Buffalo is facing a high number of collisions between motor vehicles and bicycles. In fact, data indicates that last year alone, 43 cyclists and pedestrians died as a result of accidents involving vehicles. The Buffalo Bicycle Accident Lawyers with William Mattar Law Offices point out that roughly 304 people per month were injured in these crashes. The city is working to correct the problem with a Complete Streets initiative spearheaded by Go Bike Buffalo. The group works to ensure that any upgrades or repairs that are made to the city’s streets take all types of commuters into consideration. The program is responsible for Mayor Byron Brown to dedicate the funds and manpower that are needed to install at least 10 miles of new bicycle infrastructure in Buffalo each year. Officials are also working to develop a new infrastructure master plan that would be more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. More racks where bicycles can be secured were installed throughout the city as well this summer to promote cycling as a mode of transportation. William Mattar’s Buffalo Personal Injury Lawyers applaud the efforts being made by the city to improve roadways for pedestrians and cyclists alike and the firm is hopeful to see more projects with similar goals being adopted in the future.
