One of the most preventable causes of auto accidents is faulty vehicle equipment. Each year, thousands of American cars, trucks, and motorcycles are recalled because certain parts fail to properly function. Now Kia is planning to recall as many as 377,000 vehicles because faulty transmissions allow the car to roll while in park, which can cause accidents that result in injuries. According to The New York Times, the transmission of Kia Sorento SUVs made between 2011-2013 can move out of the park position without the brake being applied. This can allow the vehicle to roll, and the problem is responsible for at least three injuries. Experts say the reason for the problem is the gearshift interlock device can become damaged when too much force is used to move the gear lever. The company has announced they will recall all affected vehicles, but the recall may not be launched until 2016. In the meantime, many motorists remain exposed to the risks the faulty transmissions can pose.
