Syracuse Truck Accident Leaves Three People Injured

November 2, 2012 Three motorists were injured as the result of an accident involving a dump truck yesterday morning. The Post Standard reports the crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 20 and Fox Road, just outside Syracuse. Sgt. John D’Eredita, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, stated a 21-year-old driver of a Dodge Caravan carrying two other passengers was heading westbound on Route 20. A Kenworth dump truck driven by a 49-year-old resident of Elbridge followed closely behind. When the minivan slowed to make a left turn, the driver of the dump truck plowed into the rear of the van. The impact of the Syracuse Truck Accident left both the minivan driver an 18-year-old passenger with injuries. Family members later transported the 21-year-old passenger in the backseat of the van to the hospital for examination. The law states that not only is traffic supposed to stay at least 100 feet behind a dump truck, but dump trucks are supposed to do the same for other traffic to allow time to stop. Failure by a truck driver to do so could be considered negligence in the event of an accident.
