June 15, 2012 With the summer construction season now at hand, the New York Department of Transportation (NYDOT) and state residents are working together to improve highway safety. According to a story from CNY Central, citizens met with NYDOT engineers at Volney Town Hall this past Tuesday afternoon to discuss different ways that intersections along Route 481 could be improved. There have been dozens of crashes along the road, some of which have been fatal. Residents blame poor sight lines and a lack of room to reach the speed of traffic along the highway. The current plans show improvements such as a widened main corridor, along with the addition of merging and turn lanes. The NYDOT is also working to improve safety and reduce the number of Car Accident Injuries by kicking off “Operation Hard Hat”. The campaign places New York State Police Troopers in inconspicuous locations along work zones on the state’s highways. The “undercover” Troopers then monitor for infractions, such as aggressive driving or speeding, and radio to other Troopers in marked squad cars to pull over violators. The campaign also uses digital signage to warn drivers of upcoming work zones and to slow down. The Buffalo Car Accident Lawyers with the William Mattar Law Offices would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists that safety takes priority while driving through construction zones. Driving with care will not only prevent you from getting a ticket, but may also save a life.
