Kevin Murphy
Attorney Kevin Murphy was born in Buffalo, New York. Growing up in Williamsville, New York, he later attended the State University of New York at Albany, where he majored in Political Science. During his time at the University, Kevin participated in various organizations and community service ventures. Most notably, he was elected to serve as the Vice President of the University student body, representing nearly 13,500 students. While in that role, Kevin was tasked with the internal operations of the organization, managing nearly 40 employees, and overseeing a 2.6 million dollar budget. Apart from this, he also was a member of Phi Alpha Delta International Pre-Law fraternity, where he served as their chapters’ Professional Development Chair. Prior to graduation, he was awarded the organizations “Most Outstanding Senior Award” as a result of his service, leadership and achievements.
His passion for service, advocacy and the representation of others always drove his desire to pursue a legal career. As a result of this, upon graduation, Kevin attended Albany Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 2019. While in law school, Kevin spent his first summer as a law clerk with William Mattar law offices. He cites the experience with us as an important building block in his development, which really fostered his passion for legal problem solving. Afterwards, he also spent time working in Albany within the State Capitol, at the New York State Department of Health. He gained significant exposure to health law working as a research assistant in the Division of Legal Affairs. While in this role, he spent time conducting legal research relating to health law and policy, assisted in legislative review, and assisted in litigation. Prior to graduating law school, he spent over a year and a half working at the State Capitol. During his second year of law school, he competed in the Dominick L. Gabrielli Moot Court Program, further extending his passion for legal writing and oral advocacy.
While in law school, he also garnered experience within the Albany Law Clinic and Justice Center, participating in the Immigration Law Clinic. Within this program, he served to provide pro bono representation and services to individuals seeking asylum, or a pathway to United States citizenship. Obtaining hands on experience and helping individuals in need further reinforced his passion for advocacy for others via the legal system.
Ultimately, the enriching experience he first found with William Mattar law offices prompted him to rejoin us upon returning to the Buffalo area. When asked about his experience with the firm he stated, “From the moment I first arrived here as a young and eager law clerk, it was very clear to me that this was a positive environment wherein one could really learn and grow. The resources at our disposal are immense, in great respect to our incredibly knowledgeable and supportive colleagues. To be able to serve members of the community in helping them overcome their obstacles is an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling experience. I do this every day, carrying out the firm mission by fighting for our clients to get the best possible result.”
In his spare time, Kevin enjoys hiking, cycling, fitness, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. He is an avid soccer, football, and hockey fan, and always tries to watch as many games as he possibly can. Additionally, he maintains a goal and desire to hike all forty-six of the Adirondack high peaks.
