Jeffrey Hitchings
Attorney Jeffrey Hitchings is from East Aurora, New York. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY, graduating cum laude in 2009. He embraced his time in Central New York, in part, by volunteering at the Syracuse Zoo. He then returned to the Buffalo area to earn his Juris Doctorate from the University at Buffalo Law School as a 2021 cum laude graduate. While at law school, he was a member of the Environmental Law Journal and Journal of Gender, Law, and Social Policy. He was also a Desmond Moot Court Competitor.
Jeffrey is admitted to practice law in New York State, and in Federal Court in the Western District of New York. He is a member of both the Erie County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.
He has focused on No-Fault and personal injury litigation and spent some time in insurance defense. This experience allows him to have a unique perspective as to how the insurance companies function and how to best represent his clients against them. With varied experiences that help make a positive impact, he has also worked as an environmental consultant in San Francisco, evaluating client compliance with State and Federal environmental regulations.
Jeffrey initially became a lawyer in order to promote environmental sustainability, but soon found that helping people was the most gratifying and meaningful part of being a lawyer. It is this deep-seated desire to help people that drove him to pursue a career in personal injury. He is also passionate about how law and policy affect our lives and supports laws and policies that improve the lives of our fellow citizens. He says, “My transition from the defense bar to the plaintiff’s bar came about as I found my plaintiff’s work far more meaningful, and at William Mattar, I can help provide comfort and relief to people who really need it. I think that most people are under tremendous stress and pressure, especially recently. I find the ability to lighten their load enormously rewarding. I also find the fact that good deeds spur further good deeds extremely rewarding.”
He enjoys a variety of leisure activities and likes to spend spare time writing, reading, hiking, and, in the winter, snowboarding. Jeffrey also enjoys puzzles, playing games with friends, and is deeply passionate about travel.
